Car air conditioning has been rapidly standardised over the last 10 years due to the major enhancement it brings to passenger comfort. To work properly car air conditioning systems do require regular maintenance. Manufacturers recommend an air conditioning service every 2 years.

Car air conditioning systems will tend to lose refrigerant over time. Engines vibrate, causing the pipework and fixings to move, expand and contract, which can mean that on average a car will lose 10-15% of its air-con coolant every year. This will cause the air conditioning performance to deteriorate and if you leave your car air conditioning operating with low refrigerant levels more serious problems can occur with both air and moisture entering the system.

WHEN TO HAVE THE AIR-CON SERVICED/REGASSED:

• Not cold enough?
• Windows not demisting?
• Runny nose, headache?
• Strange noises when A/C is on?

A poorly performing car air conditioning system can cause a build up of fungus, bacteria and other microbes growing inside the evaporator core, causing a smell, sometimes an allergic reaction and can lead to legionnaires disease.

We never just “top up” your air conditioning if you have an issue with coolant loss. There can, for example, be small leaks in the system; so we always recover the gas in the system, use a dye to check the system before either re-gassing to correct levels or carrying out any repairs so re-gassing is successful

Even if you are not having any issues it is recommended to have your car air con system serviced every 18 months- check the details in your car service guide. Your air conditioning system is not part of the Jaguar service schedule and is something left to the owner’s discretion It is an extra, chargeable item, but vital to have done. A poor air-con system can also increase your fuel costs as the air conditioning pump needs to work harder.
